Mile Marker #15: An Actual Check-in For Once!

Hoo boy, last week was one for the record books. Just a whole lotta stress, but I’m officially on the other side and NOT sick! I wasn’t feeling great yesterday, so I did the smart thing and took a sick day. Luckily, that seems to have staved off whatever cold was coming for me (knock on wood, anyway).

I realized my recent updates have been very introspective (not that that’s a bad thing, my brain is fascinating if I do say so myself). So today, I’m crunching some numbers as I head into “Preptober.”

Technically I’m not doing National Novel Writing Month this year, but my long-haul editing will be happening at the same time, so maybe I’ll adjacently participate?

Right now, the second draft is sitting pretty at 31,116 words. I thought I was super behind, but I’m actually not - I need to hit 36,000 words today to be “on track,” which is extremely doable. I worked ahead for the first couple weeks of this process, so that’s definitely making up for not writing at all last week.

My goals for this week are just to get very aggressive about word count, as aggressive as I can be. I have class tonight, and still need to do my homework for that, but I have plenty of time. I’m here at my remote office (the local coffee shop I love), ready to strap in for realsies.

I still feel pretty good about hitting the second-draft deadline in (gulp!) 10 weeks. I’m hoping I start a full-time job soon, which will complicate things a bit, but I know I can do this.

Away to the page!

Til next time,
Mags
